In the Person of Interest press room on Saturday at San Diego Comic Con, Taraji P. Henson took the time to graciously speak about her role in the upcoming CBS drama, set to premiere in September.
“I got a call from Jonathan personally, and he just expressed a deep interest to want to work with me. How do you say no to that?” asked Taraji. She then went on to explain how when she read the script, she felt compelled to take on the project. “I have been turning television down since I left Boston Legal…and this one just felt really special, I felt like I hadn’t seen it before on television. This is not your average cop show.”
When I asked her what it was about the character that appealed to her when she read the script for the first time, Taraji told me that she’s “not interested in duplicating characters. I’ve played cops before, but she’s different. And something about her seems very dark, that we haven’t even gotten into yet.”
Person of Interest is one of the shows I’m most looking forward to seeing when it premieres in September and Taraji’s enthusiasm for the show and her character only made me more excited about it. Check out the full video below, where Taraji talks more about the character she plays and what she hopes the show will bring to the audience.
