For most showrunners, figuring out how to keep a series grounded in reality is a common hindrance. But that’s not so much the case for the behind the scenes talents of Once Upon A Time in Wonderland, a show that builds on fantasy and mythology.
“This show is so much fun to do as a writer because it’s all about imagination,” shared EP Zack Estrin at Comic Con. “This show is really about the impossible.”
While it’s hard not to hope for Once crossovers given the nature of the series, Estrin stressed that despite its “spin-off” nature, Wonderland isn’t latching onto its sister show in that way. “This is a show that’s going to live on its own,” Estrin said. “It’s a brand new show that doesn’t require the many rules that Once has. It’s Alice’s story and her adventure.”
